Picnic in the Hidden Bower

We visited Lavender Hollow Farm again Sunday afternoon. We lucked out and got the hidden bower for our picnic. An old mulberry tree has created a secret glen under its drooping branches and the owners of the farm have placed some chairs there for visitors. We were serenaded by Teen2 and her ocarina.

For lunch we had smoked salmon and cucumber tidbits, scotch eggs, deviled eggs, quiche, spinach salad, muffins, and strawberries and cream.

And after lunch we cut bunches of lavender, and listened to the drone of the bees.

Bunches of fresh lavender decorated our table. We sat and talked amongst the shade of the ancient tree. It was a wonderful day out.

P.S. Check out Tara's blog about fiscal and physical responsibility. I walked this morning, did you? Maybe July's challenge should be to exercise every day.

  1. Such a beautiful location, and I am intrigued by all these fields of lavender. Just the thought of it sounds enchanting. And, such a wonderful place for a delicious picnic.

  2. What a terrific post! I can almost smell the wonderful lavender and, my oh my, that picnic looks DEVINE! That must've been so spectacular to spend time in that location, with that food and with your sweet musician. Exercise is a MUST! I usually do aerobics three times a week and a Pilates class once a week. I have always done something from walking to aerobics to kickboxing (didn't like that so much). We became even more in to the physical aspect of our health after my husband had a heart attack and triple bi-pass surgery. He had been your typical couch spud. He is an exercise king these days--he does more than I do and has for quite some time. I am very proud of him for being so exercise faithful for over 6 years now! I hope your readers will be inspired by your July challenge and not wait until a health event causes them to start moving!

  6. I'm so glad you had such a wonderful time. Our picnic Saturday at the farm was great, too. We had picnic tables next to the cars. People kept stopping and wanting to know if they could get lunches, too. We had a small quilt show and were even asked if they were for sale. It's truly a magical place. The Taylors are lovely people.

  8. Jan,
We thought the same thing. And we brought the book with us and Uncle Peter read that passage about the picnic. The bottomless picnic hamper; such a wonderful English tradition!
