This window faces West and at certain times of the year the sun glares into the kitchen. We needed something to cut the glare, so we hit upon this solution. So what is it, you ask?
See the box above the window? It holds a map like you had in elementary school, and when it's sunny we pull down the map and it not only blocks the sun, but gives you a geography lesson as well.
One layer has the World, and the other has the United States. I'd like to get Europe and the UK eventually; there's room in the box to add them. As a map lover, I believe one can never have too many maps.
I love this!! did you make it or buy it somewhere. i need a window treatment and love maps. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Erin,
ReplyDeleteWe got the map a few years back from a school supply place we found on the Internet. I think maybe it was www.wall-maps.com but I'm not certain. The only drawback it that the school maps are designed to be viewed across a classroom so they aren't terribly detailed. I wish I could somehow mount a highly detailed map to a roller. Hmmm, I think I'll research that.
i like that map because it has stockton on it. :D

That is one of the best ideas I have ever seen. How fab to have the world at your window.
ReplyDeleteYour own little one schoolroom kitchen! What a great place for kids to do homework while you're cooking!
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea!! Really really clever! Arne't maps just wonderful artworks -- the colors alone make each one so unique! Your map is a true treasure! Well done -- and well planned!
