Pink Saturday Peonies

I just love, love, love Peonies and wish I had more of them. These are so bright they almost look fake, but they are real, I assure you. Enjoy.

We went to the movies last night, LOM, me and Teen2. We saw Star Trek. Wow! Great movie.

Of course, I loved all the Star Treks starting with the The Original. Teen2 actually called me a "Trekkie" when I started reciting the words: "Space... the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise...." And you know what? I'm proud of that.

Camellia Season

Here in California it is Camellia Season. They seem to like our clay soil and warm climate and perform quite reliably every winter. They are like nature's Valentine to us. I ran out this morning and took these photos for all of you. I thought maybe you needed a bit of color to get you through the winter. And even though I didn't sign up for Pink Saturday, I often think of pink on Saturday. Enjoy!

Goodbye Pink

In the little pink room there was a tassel from France,

and flowered curtains with no valance,

and soft pink carpet on which to dance,

and Teen2 defiantly taking a stance.

She won and so now it's Goodbye to pink.

Wallpaper, blankets and quilts; you all stink.

And the little old lady who loved the pink?

She sits in the corner crying in her drink.

Goodbye rose buds.

Goodbye broadloom.

Goodbye blankets.

Goodbye quilts.

Goodbye pink in this little room.

Restful Pink Saturday

One thing I love about English style decorating is the use of pink color schemes. It seems here in America, pink is not too popular, but across the pond, it is well loved. Isn't this bedroom just the most relaxing looking room?

I decorated one bedroom here Amongst The Oaks in pink. And now that the girls are teenagers, they don't like it. Sad. They would love to change it, but I'm saying no for now.

Bookish Pink Saturday

I love to read and I used to read a lot more before my eyes got "old". Now it seems like such a hassle, but recently a friend loaned me an interesting book, so I've actually been reading again. When I read I need a quiet spot, a comfy chair, a good lamp and of course those darn glasses.

I thought I'd share my pink reading chair today. I got it at an estate sale. It was in bad shape, so I had it recovered in the same soft pink velvet, but the upholsterer couldn't find the exact trim (which I loved) so I told him to reuse the old trim. It's a little faded, but I think it's just perfect.

I love the curves and soft shapes of this chair. It really is a feminine thing, isn't it?

And I even found a bookmark with pink roses on it. Now if I could just find the time to finish the book. It's called "Pillars of the Earth" and is about the building of a cathedral in medieval England. I know it sounds boring, but it's actually fascinating.

Sparkly Pink Saturday

Who doesn't love cranberry glass? Just as I thought; no one raised their hand. It seems everyone loves it and I'm no different.

I love the way the light sparkles and reflects on it, so I took a few pieces outside yesterday and got these images.

Gardener's Pink Saturday

I bought these happy pink gloves last week. They will be the perfect thing to use whilst working in the garden with these plants, which also happen to be pink.

Rosy Pink Saturday

This is one of my favorites because it reminds me of those old fashioned roses in still life paintings from the 1900s. My granny had one of those prints and I remember it vividly. It was a mixed bouquet with petals falling on the table, and a bee on one of the blossoms. My granny also loved roses and had a beautiful little rose garden on the side of her house. I remember following her around as she tended it, amazed at the beautiful things growing there. I've been told that I broke off several unopened buds when I was a small child and I can't believe she didn't lock me in the basement for it. But she didn't, and they developed new buds, and she must have forgiven me. I think. I hope. I'm so sorry Granny. I like that about my memory; I tend to remember the good stuff and forget the bad. Isn't it funny how a bunch of roses brought all that out?

P.S. I walked today; 60 minutes/6036 steps.

Pink Saturday #3

Teen1 and Teen2 have been tie-dying things this summer. They had some items hanging on the clothesline the other day in the afternoon sun. These pink colors attracted my eye. What fun tie-dying is!

Second Pink Saturday

I like pink a lot, so I have lots of pink things to choose from for my second Pink Saturday. Here is a little silk purse that holds my Mom's pearls. She gave them to me when I turned 50. She gave them to me because when I was a baby I grabbed at them and broke the strand. They went flying everywhere, but thankfully they were gathered and restrung.

I love cranberry glass and have a few pieces. Here is a cranberry glass vase that my sister gave to me. Actually, she gave it to Teen1 when she was about 4 months old, and I suppose I'll give it to her someday, but for now I think of it as mine.
And here is a scarf I bought in Paris. It was so cold that spring we thought we'd freeze! And as we were driving back from Giverny, it even snowed! I really needed that scarf and when I wear it every winter, I think back on that fun trip.

Pink Saturday

I'm joining Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for Pink Saturday. As you may know, I've challenged myself to post a white flower every day this month. Whilst searching for all these white flowers, I've run across some pretty pink ones too! So today's Pink Saturday item is this beautiful mimosa flower.

I took this about 6:30 this morning on my walk. (I am the dorkiest walker; carrying my camera!) The new blooms were just beginning to shoot out their threadlike petals.

This is how they look after everything has straightened out.

The sun looked beautiful through the feathery leaves and puffy flowers.

And even though the leaves aren't pink, look at that beautiful pattern.
