See's Candies

Recognize this box? "I do, I do!" And if you are from the West Coast of the US, you might also recognize it as See's Candies famous red Christmas box. We were given this box by our insurance salesman. He gives us one every year. In fact, giving See's Candies has been a tradition around here for many years.

See's Candies was started in Los Angeles in the 1920s by a Canadian man. His mother, Mary See, helped with some of the initial recipes, and her picture is still on every box. See's prides itself on fresh, unique, preservative-free candy. Each tidy little shop is still decorated as they were in the 1930s; spotless white with black accents.

We have a stand-alone shop in our town. It's been there for at least 40 years that I know of. You can buy prepackaged assortments, or you can select your favorites from behind the glass. And you always get a free sample before you leave. Tell me, who gives away free samples now days?

I used to work right next door to this shop. Most afternoons one of us would suggest a little pick-me-up, so we'd scrape together our change, and one of us would walk across the parking lot to select a few of our favorites. It was heaven.
So here's what is in the assorted chocolates box. Lovely, aren't they?
I actually prefer the nuts and chews assortment, but I'll choke these down somehow.

Yum.

See's Candies, a happy habit.

Hey, I recognize that shop! And isn't that the scene of a famous VW accident??? :-)
Enjoy your sweets, I'm jealous. MIL used to give us a box every Christmas so we have a memory too.
Hugs!

Oh My, my mouth waters! Every year I receive a big box of See's from my son and daughter-in-law in CA. It's such a treat for this Southern mom. Your picture is a vivid reminder of what awaits my taste buds on the 25th!

We used to have a huge box of Sees Candy every holiday - two layers - I couldn't wait for the remnants of the top layer to be finished up so we could open the bottom layer - there was no snitching from the bottom layer until the top was completely gone. :-)

Happy West Coast Memories - and with internet shopping - we can share.

Happy munching.

I love See's candies. Our facility gets a box as a thank you from families thanking the staff for caring their loved ones. The boxes are put out for everyone to enjoy.

We have boxes in the gift shop of our facility and one lady in our department likes to buy a box after lunch every once in a while. It never takes long for our crew to empty that box!
My favorites are the mocha ones with the chocolate sprinkles.

We ordered See's in for Christmas last year! Guess I'd better get crackin' and order for this year! (I bet I gained a pound looking at these pictures!)
