Got Milk?

This used to be the scene on dinner tables all across America a generation ago, but lately not so much. And what a shame we don't get milk like that anymore. My sister gave me this bottle recently and I scrubbed it out and we used it on the table last night. The family loved it. My girls have always consumed a lot of milk. In fact I've encouraged them to drink whole milk instead of lowfat milk, soda, diet soda, or juice.
I think America's aversion to anything with fat in it is a huge part of the weight problem here. Listen up folks: when the food manufacturers take the fat out of foods, they substitute sugars/carbohydrates and THAT is what is making America fat. So never consume anything that says DIET, LOWFAT, NONFAT, or LITE. Just go back to the foods your grandparents or great grandparents ate: whole, simple, lots of veggies, and non-processed, and you will be much healthier. And thinner. And your family will thank you.

Anywhoo......we all got a kick out of the old milk bottle, and it certainly looks better than that plastic thingie, so we are going to use it all the time Amongst The Oaks. Thanks sister!

Yep, milk tastes better when served out of a glass bottle.

We have a dairy farm near by that has hit some of our local stores with their products--and they are being very well received by consumers. It is called the Shatto Milk Co---their products are organic and fresh and come in glass bottles (the milk, that is--their butter is sold in wrappers) :). While they sell milk in varieties other than Whole, their product is first class and healthy. It's so great to see such an interest in healthier food--both from the producer and the consumer.

Thanks for a great post!

I agree - eat close to the earth and we will be healthier.

That is a great bottle! I also love your table cloth.
My kids used to drink milk with every meal. My son still drinks whole milk, he won't touch any of the others.

I love the nostalgic milk bottle and I completely agree about eating foods in their natural state- It only makes sense that if you strip the fat out of a food, your appetite is not satisfied and you eat even more to compensate. I feel the same way about eggs- eat those yolks with the vitamins and fat in them--they are a perfect, healthy food!

That is a great idea! I used to sometimes pour milk into a pitcher and serve it that way.

I wholeheartedly agree! We drink whole milk here at our house--the other stuff tastes like unclean water! I have been looking for a while for a suitable milk bottle, but it's got to be pretty big cause we go through a lot of milk these days!

You won't find any low-fat milk, fat-free half-n-half or margarine in my house!
