Oktoberfest

We have a group of friends that we get together with once a month for co-op dinner parties. Every month is a different cuisine and this month it was German, so we celebrated Oktoberfest Saturday night. Two weeks ago we started the sauerkraut. It was so easy to make and tasted delicious. I never knew it was simply cabbage and salt. It actually creates its own brine and naturally ferments itself. We also had sauerbraten, potato pancakes, brats, and apple strudel for dessert. There was also plenty of German beer and German music. We set up the table outdoors and decorated it in Bavarian style; blue and white with sheaves of wheat. When it got chilly hubby made a fire and we laughed and talked and talked and laughed until midnight here Amongst The Oaks.
Auf Wiedersehen.

Sauerkraut...hmmm...used to really enjoy it when a teenager, but haven't had it for years...maybe I shouldn't have ate it by the jarful...German beer and good company sounds like a great combination though!
